Where we are

Quote

If poverty is defined as deprivation of basic human needs – food, safe drinking water, sanitation, health services, shelter and education – then more than two-third of Bihar’s population would be subsumed under this category – “Chronic Poverty and Social Conflict in Bihar by N.R. Mohanty”

Scenario of Bihar

The present state of Bihar, comprising about 3 per cent of the total geographical area of India and about 9 per cent of its total population (102 million as per the 2011 Census), is the most densely populated state of the country. However, with an urban population of just 11 per cent, it is the least urbanized among the major states of India. Bihar has witnessed significant social, economic and political transformation during the last three decades or so. While progress has been uneven, there has been some social and political empowerment of the poor, more so among those belonging to middle castes, and considerable decline in poverty as well, although still more than half of the population continues to be poor. The incidence of migration is higher for the backward districts of North Bihar, in comparison with the better off districts of south Bihar.

Since the inception of Satya Manav, we have witnessed a considerable transformation. It has always been my belief that we can make a significant difference in Bihar. While many may consider these social issues as commonplace, we see them as challenges to overcome. Currently, our operations are concentrated in the northern areas of Bihar, yet our impact resonates across the region. Through building strong relationships with rural communities, we have gained insight into prevalent issues and have utilized participatory methods to address them effectively. Over the next decade, we envision expanding our reach to cater to the needs of the entire rural population of Bihar. As we embark on this noble journey, we extend an invitation to join hands with us. Together, let us forge a brighter future for the communities we serve, characterized by compassion, innovation, and sustainable development.
