Educational Projects
Current Projects
- Formal Education under S.L Mary International School-Known as SLMIS, the school is situated in the Kurhani block of Muzaffarpur district. Kurhani is one of the largest blocks in Muzaffarpur, with a significant population of Musahar and other marginalized communities. This is the main reason our chairman envisioned opening a formal school in this area, where children can receive an education on par with other educational institutes. Currently, there are 1,000 children enrolled, with 80% belonging to farming communities. SLMIS aims to develop a hostel for boys and girls who face difficulties in accessing education and often choose to work instead of attending school.
- Scholarships – Scholarships are awarded to students based on two criteria. Firstly, scholarships are given to meritorious students who excel in their studies but cannot afford education expenses. Through the SLMIS scholarship program, deserving children can receive annual or lifelong scholarships. Secondly, scholarships are awarded to students who come from very poor backgrounds and marginalized communities. These scholarships are aimed at at-risk children who may be left behind in their education if not given focused support.
- Non-Formal education – The students in non-formal education differ significantly from those in formal schools. Many of these children come from impoverished backgrounds, SC/ST communities, and labouring families, facing barriers to accessing education. Through our non-formal education program, we offer evening classes, sports activities, and computer education to participating students.
- Emphasizing on Right to play – Play is crucial for a child’s intellectual and holistic development, offering a delightful and immersive journey where learning, growth, and flourishing take centre stage. Our Play approach is designed to not only be enjoyable but also to foster essential skills and competencies, nurturing children into empathetic, insightful, and accomplished individuals. Unfortunately, many rural children lack opportunities to showcase their hidden talents or develop age-appropriate skills. Through our play program, SMUS actively engage with children, providing the essential nurturing environment vital for their development.
